A Voice of Her Own - Embodiment Theology in conversation with Protestant Mariology

Date: Wednesday 17th January 2024

Time: 3pm (in the UK)

Venue: Online via Zoom

In our first seminar of 2024, Major Emma Moore (University of Divinity, Melbourne, Australia) will present her current doctoral research in Protestant Mariology and embodiment. Emma proposes that embodiment theology recaptures Mary’s body as a locus of relationship, listening, speaking, touching, and movement, and challenges Protestant Mariology to look beyond vessel metaphors, domestication, and piety.

For Emma, Mary embodies God’s revelation and cooperates with God to activate the theological imagination of the Church. In the light of embodiment commitments, Mary arises as a socially and politically engaged figure as well as an exemplar of empowerment and generosity. This presentation will outline the rationale, aims, and methodology for the research project and provide a sample of embodiment reflection focused on Mary’s visit to Elizabeth (Luke 1:39-56).

To join the audience, please register for the free Zoom link by sending an email to Catherine O’Brien: info@marianstudies.ac.uk.

The link will be sent to you the day before the presentation.
